In October 2019, Exmouth Ceramic Group members and students took part in a Raku glazing and firing day at Organic Arts, West Town Farm, Ide (nr Exeter).

We each made a few pieces out of Raku clay and brought them along to the workshop, already bisque-fired. We learnt how to fire our work in the outdoor kilns, using specialist glazes to create the authentic Japanese style of ceramic firing.

I created a couple of night light holders, an incense stick holder and a bowl for the day. I had no idea of how the glazes would turn out after the firing but I experimented with the the turquoise glaze (which could turn copper depending on the atmosphere it was exposed to), and also the large and small crackle glazes.
